At Jellybean Custom Coatings, we offer a professional Blasting service, in order to prepare your item(s) and achieve the best surface possible. That could mean preparing your item to be super-glossy, or removing a sheen to give a matte or rough look. Whatever finish you would like, having the optimum surface means that the Hydrographics coating will adhere perfectly, look fantastic and be super-durable and weatherproof.

Why might you need our professional Blasting service?

Our Blasting service is used when we are dealing with rusty or old parts or items, and/or those with surface debris. We may also need to remove paint, corrosion or other elements.

Or you may wish to add texture to a surface, such as giving it a matte or rough look.

Blasting is particularly in demand in the following Sectors, where an absolutely smooth surface is not just nice to have but absolutely essential:

  • Aerospace
  • Automotive
  • Military

Call us today on 01738 551333 or contact us online to discuss requirements for your project.

Do all items need to undergo Blasting before being coated?

Not all items need our Blasting service. If you have a clean item with a relatively smooth surface, such as games console casings, toilet seats, chair legs, lamp bases, sports equipment, bike parts, etc then we can almost always coat them without the need for blasting.
However, if your item has surface debris, is rusty, is chipped, dented or showing other signs of age on its surface, we can put it through our Blasting service.

How does the Blasting process work?

We assess your item to find out which Blasting product to use. If your item is soft, we might use a material such as ground-up walnut shells (similar to those found in facial scrubs). If the item is hard, we would use sand or a similar material to blast it.

We can also use different abrasive materials and adjust the air pressure, depending on what kind of finish you’d like.
Commonly used abrasives are:

  • aluminium oxide
  • corn cob grit
  • crushed glass grit
  • glass beads
  • pumice
  • silicon carbide
  • steel grit and
  • steel shot
  • urea and other plastic abrasives
  • white aluminium oxide
  • walnut shell grit

We can use glass beads to texturise, de-scale, or remove light burrs and die-cast flash. This produces a smooth bright satin finish.

We use abrasive grits to leave a dull satin finish and create an ideal surface for bonding.

Walnut shell grit can be used for deflating thermoset plastics or aluminium parts without destroying the original polish.

After assessing that the environmental conditions (such as humidity) are correct, we blast the items using specially designed a high-tech nozzle.
